What does the week look like?

In general, each day starts around 09:00 unless communicated otherwise. On the first day, you are expected at 08:45 at the Kite Factory.

The days usually last until around 18:00, including a one-hour break.

Sometimes the days may be slightly longer or shorter depending on the wind conditions and lessons. On the first day, we will create a general schedule based on the wind forecast for that week.

During the week, we aim to complete 5 theory sessions in the mornings and 5 practical sessions in the afternoons, which include teaching lessons and kitesurfing yourself.

Depending on the wind, it is possible that we have a full teaching day or a full theory day.

Course language

Both the ATC and ITC are generally conducted in English, as we often have a mix of German and Dutch participants.

If there are only Dutch or only German participants, the ATC may be given in Dutch or German. The ITC will always be conducted in English, as the trainer for the ITC, Matty Hurrel, is from England.

Course requirements

ATC – Assistant Training Course

  • Minimum age: 16 years or older
  • Able to ride upwind and perform a jump with a grab
  • Must be able to swim

If your riding skills are not yet fully stable or your jump is not consistent yet, this is not a problem. You are still allowed to join the course.

However, you will need to submit a video within one year showing that you can perform a jump with a grab. From that moment on, your Assistant or Level 1 Instructor certification will be valid.

What if there is no wind during the week?

No worries β€” the course will always continue. We can achieve a lot through simulations.

Although it has never happened, if the wind stays below 7 knots for the entire week, you will still complete the week but receive internship hours instead.

This means you can complete your practical teaching later at any IKO school with a Level 2 instructor or higher. For example, you may need to assist and teach for an additional 3 afternoons.

Payments

You are required to pay your IKO fee directly to IKO yourself.

About a week before the course (sometimes earlier), you will receive an invoice from Soal Surf / Sky High for the remaining amount. This must be paid before the course starts.

Course cancellation

Will the course always take place?

No, if there are too few registrations, the course may be cancelled. This decision is made by the school. Generally, if there are 3 or fewer participants, the course will not take place.

This decision is usually made about one month in advance.

If there is any doubt about whether the course will go ahead, we will inform you in time.

In some cases, we may combine groups to ensure the course can still take place.
